EuPhilGood aims to expand the scientific knowledge of European Philanthropy through a network of European researchers of both EU and non-EU origin. EuPhilGood will build upon the existing European Research Network on Philanthropy (ERNOP), and its networking activities will aim to conduct the first comparative study of household and institutional philanthropic giving in all EU member countries, including both synchronic and dynamic comparisons. The building of this network will allow the implementation of an unprecedented portfolio of secondary data inventory- and primary data gathering projects in 27 European countries, to be analysed under a common and multidisciplinary theoretical framework. A standardised research design will be implemented to collect primary data. More specifically, EuPhilGood will build a strong interdisciplinary academic network in order to:

1.    Advance scientific knowledge on philanthropy in Europe.
2.    Collect, inventory and compare secondary data available for the 27 countries integrated in the European Union, both relating to household and institutional philanthropic giving, in order to identify main philanthropic actors, emerging ones, and their profiles and motivations.
3.    Work on methodologies to improve comparability and strength of secondary data, to produce comparable primary data, and to exchange know-how relative to their analysis.
4.    Carry out pilot surveys and promote case studies for those EU countries where secondary data on household and institutional philanthropic giving are not available, in order to produce comparable primary data.
5.    Produce the first publicly available database on household and institutional philanthropy in Europe, perform both cross-country and longitudinal comparisons on those data, and disseminate the analysis and findings to EU member countries, other countries, scholars, practitioners and policy-makers.
